Golf Club Shaft Fitting Chart

To choose the proper shaft for your swing you need to take into effect several different characteristics. 

1)  The first is your body and swing type.  This can  range from a powerful upper body and swing to average upper body strength and a smooth slower swing.  Too light of a shaft in a powerful, quick, fast swing can cause a loss of control where as this shaft will help a player with a slower smother swing.  A player should choose the lightest shaft possible to gain distance but not so light that it causes a loss of control.

Our shaft weight recommendation are designated by a colored letter.
            A)    Tour weight shafts 80grams and up.  These would be best for Strong players with a powerful swing type.  H
            B)    Standard weight shafts 72grams to 80grams.  These would be best for most players with average body types and average to powerful swings.  S
            C)    Light weight shafts 62 grams to 71grams.  These would be best for most players looking for added distance with control.  L
            D)    Ultra light weight shafts below 62grams.  These would be best for players with smooth slower swings looking for added distance.  U

2)    To narrow your shaft choice we need to look at the shaft torque.  Torque measures how much a shaft rotationally twists.  The lower the torque the less the shaft twists.  Fifteen years ago it was thought that all players would benefit from using a shaft with the lowest torque available or affordable, this has been proven wrong.  Players with a fast and quick swing can benefit from low torques but a torque that is to low for a swing can cause a club to feel to stiff or "like a board".  Players with a slower smoother swing will benefit from using shafts with higher torques.  A colored letter will designate your shaft recommendation.
            A)    Very low torque 3.0 or less.  These would be best for fast, quick swings. V
            B)    Low torque 3.1 to 3.6.  These would be best for most players with faster swings. L
            C)    Medium torque 3.7 to 4.8.  These would be best for most players. M
            D)    High torque 4.9 or higher.  These would be best for players with slower swings. H

3)    To narrow your shaft choice further we need to determine your shot trajectory  Shafts with a high bend or flex point produce a lower shot.  This is usually good for players with average to above average club head speed looking for control and a boring shot.  Shafts with a low bend or flex point produce a higher shot and can help players with slower club head speeds get the ball up and increase distance.  A colored letter will designate the shaft flex point or bend point.
            A)   High flex bend point.  H Lowest most controlled shot.
            B)   Mid-High bend point.  MH Controlled lower shot.
            C)   Mid flex bend point.  M
           D)   Mid-Low bend point.  ML  More distance higher shot with a little less control
             C)  Low bend point.  L Higher shot, most distance with lest control.
 

4)    To narrow your shaft selection further  you need to determine the quality of golf game.  The shaft selections below are divided into low to mid handicap amateur mid handicap player and mid to high handicap player.  to get the best shaft you should choose one from your category.
      A) Shafts for Low handicap players and Pros are shaded in gray
      B) Shafts for Low to Mid handicap amateurs are shaded in light yellow
      C) Shafts for Mid handicap players are highlighted in light green
      D) Shafts for Mid to High handicap players are highlighted in light blue

5)    Next you should choose what flex shaft you need by your swing speed.  Your swing speed should be determined using a standard length driver or 3 wood.

An example: 

1)  Lets say you are of average build with an overall average swing speed and tempo and are looking for some added distance.  This means that a light weight shaft would be best for you.   
    This means you should be looking for a shaft labeled with a L

2)  You have Average club head speed but your swing has a tendency to get quick every once in awhile.  A low torque shaft would be best for you in this case. 
    This means you should be looking for a shaft labeled with a L

3)  You do not have any tendencies to hit a high or low shot and have an average or faster swing.  In this situation you should try a shaft with a Mid flex point. 
    This means you should be looking for a shaft labeled with a M

4)  You play often and shoot in the low 90s for 18 holes. This means you should use a shaft in the mid handicap players section labeled L-L-M.  This would give you the choices of:
 

5)  Your club head speed is 90mph.
